Call for Artists

TAWU, Obsidian Arts & Soap Factory are seeking 100 African American, African and artists of color to participate in an extraordinary show of Black Culture

Soul on Ice
Understanding the value and depth of Black Culture

518 2nd Street SE
Minneapolis, MN

February 23rd – March 24th, 2008

The “Soul on Ice” exhibition will be a chilling new art experience , as the Soap Factory Gallery will not be heated during the run of the show. Leaving the attendees and visitors to wear their coats while viewing nothing but Stone Cold Art! You should also consider this low temperature constant when creating and submitting your artwork.

The title is inspired from the renowned author and activist, Eldridge Cleaver. His book, entitled “Soul on Ice”, reflects on the turbulent times of the civil rights movement, an era of revolution and change. He made important strides in building a culture consciousness that is still very active in our lives today.

For more details, please attend the meeting on November 3rd, for the Theme Talk, a tour of the Soap Factory Gallery space and discussion of the exhibition calendar. Once submissions are received, a panel of art professionals will make the final selection of artists participating in the show. If selected, there will be a non-refundable entry fee of $35.00 to all artists accepted for the exhibition.
